Here are the commitments which we presented in 2018:
We the undersigned commit to asking the following questions of ourselves, our communities, and our institute(s):
-From whose position is the theory that we read narrated, and who is it leaving out?
-How are we making use of psychoanalysis as we attempt to dismantle its whiteness?
We also commit to:
-Prioritize, without tokenizing, voices of color, queer voices, and other marginalized voices in our extracurricular research and reading
-Hold each other and ourselves accountable, use our positionality, our access to academic privilege, our access to class, race and gender privilege, to bring about inclusivity and to dismantle the systems we benefit from.
-Stay awake and aware of our own fragility and defensiveness.
-Risk the neutrality in our clinical work and the favor of our teachers by asking questions that challenge the whiteness of our institute, our communities, and our clinical work.
-Meet once a month, with an aim of ten months a year, to talk specifically about how our whiteness shows up in various clinical, professional, and personal contexts and what we have done and not done about it.
Thus far, our trio has stayed dedicated to these commitments, and to continuing the work in our institute, consulting rooms, and personal lives.
